When it comes to running a successful charity Facebook Challenge group for your participants, content is everything. The right posts don’t just fill the feed – they help spark conversations, build community and stay involved with your cause.
Our Virtual Challenges Account Manager, Georgia has pulled together her six top tips to help you create high-quality content that truly engages your audience.
1. Always have a call to action.
Adding a call to action onto your content helps to increase engagement within the group and get your supporters talking. Make sure it’s simple and easy for people to perform. We’d recommend having your call to action focused around a comment rather than a reaction (like, love) as it boosts interactions. For example, “Comment YES when you’re ready to go!”, “Comment with a GIF to show your support”

2. Tailor your content to your audience and cause.
If your challenge is a dog walk, make sure to have lots of dog-focused content. Similarly, if your challenge is family-friendly, make sure to add content that engages the whole family. Linking your content back to your cause in a timely and appropriate way is very important in getting supporters engaged in your organisation’s challenge. For example, we like to share price points with our supporters so they can see what their donations could pay for.

3. For short content pieces, use Facebook’s coloured plain backgrounds to make them stand out.
We recommend always adding a coloured background onto your content pieces that don’t have images. This is a great way to make the post stand out. To make it easy to read for everyone, we’d recommend going with one of the plain backgrounds (as opposed to a patterned one). Always make sure to check how it looks on a laptop/mobile as the colours can change!

4. Use eye-catching, people-focused and relevant images, GIFs and emojis.
An image is worth 1,000 words – we think this is true! When using photos, especially for promoting your fundraising rewards, make sure they’re bright, colourful and inviting. Having real people model your bucket hats, medals and t-shirts makes a real difference. Likewise, appropriate GIFs and emojis can really make your content pop.

5. Utilise @everyone comments wisely.
An @everyone comment will send a notification to all of your group members, enticing them to come and take a peek at your content, so make sure to use them wisely for your most engaging content. Don’t do them too often (we recommend up to three per week, as they can get annoying!), and remember, once it’s posted, you can’t edit it (thanks Meta). Here are some examples that we like, which leave the supporter wanting to read more!

6. Short and snappy!
People are busy – they have lives with pets, jobs and children. As a general rule, keep your content short and easy to digest. Anything that’s too long will just get ignored. Combine a short piece of content with an easy call to action and you’re onto a winner.

We hope this helps when planning your own Facebook Challenge group content. We’d love to know what works best for you and do you have any of your own top tips?
