Social AF are the experts in social media moderation for the third sector, with extensive experience in the community management of some of the largest household names in the UK.
Over the past year we have been involved in an increasing number of conversations about how moderating and monitoring social media impacts the wellbeing of internal staff.
Conversationally, we’ve identified a number of common themes, concerns and observations. As a data-driven agency we want to delve deeper to understand the wider impact this is having across the sector.
We have created a short survey which aims to understand the experiences of those managing their charity’s digital presence, and the resulting impact on their wellbeing.
The survey explores areas such as :

We are now looking to gather 100+ submissions from individuals working across the third sector, who are directly employed by a charity. Your moderation/monitoring experience can be anything from 5-minutes a week to 500. What matters is that you’re regularly exposed to comments from the public and involved in assessing those comments and interactions.

Your responses will be anonymised, and your feedback will be used solely to help us create a more supportive framework for those working in the third sector.
We know that at any given moment one charity can have a number of people involved in social media. Notionally, we know that staff can get pulled into social media, even when it’s not officially part of their role.
The ‘always on’ culture can place an unreasonable expectation on staff. Those who manage social media accounts are often at the front line when it comes to a crisis.
It’s really important to us to receive a wide range of responses, to ensure we get a greater understanding of the wider impact on wellbeing.
The insights we gather through this survey will have real-world implications. Social media plays an increasingly significant role in shaping the perception and outreach of charities. By participating, you’re not only helping us understand current challenges but also contributing to solutions that could benefit countless others working in the same space.
The wellbeing of those who moderate social media is often overlooked, yet it is crucial to maintaining a healthy work-life balance and ensuring sustainable career paths.

Once we’ve gathered as many submissions as we can, we’ll produce an in-depth report to showcase what the data tells us. This shared understanding will allow us to highlight common trends and identify key areas where change is most needed.
We will include practical advice and tips to improve digital wellbeing as well as a section on safeguarding considerations for those in leadership roles.
As a thank you for sharing your valuable insight, we will give you an opportunity to enter a free prize draw.
There are five x £25 Amazon gift vouchers available to be won, further details are available at the end of the survey.
